Michael Finklea grew up on a small dairy farm in the beautiful Ozark Mountains of Northwest Arkansas. Struggling from Kindergarten through high school with Attention Deficit Disorder (ADD), Michael went on to attend Louisiana State University majoring in Graphic Design, Michael traveled the world for five years as a model. This is when he discovered his love for writing and started a personal journal.
Michael settled in Los Angeles, California upon returning. While there, he recognized an opportunity to create and publish his own entertainment magazine. This was the first exposure into the world of publishing. Working on the many magazine articles, Michael discovered the oldest adage for becoming a successful writer was indeed the truest - write about what you know.
The process of submitting his first story was very frustrating, to say the least. Upon his ninth submission, Michael's first manuscript, "The Worldwide Adventures of Winston & Churchill," was finally accepted! This, obviously taught Michael a very valuable lesson. You never give up!
Michael now travels to schools throughout the U.S. speaking with students on the importance of writing. He uses his dream of becoming a writer to illustrate how he succeeded and overcame the obstacles associated with ADD. His heartfelt presentations are both inspirational and motivational. And . . . FUN!
Taking his listeners on a journey from start to finish on how to write a book, Michael uses the tool of his original manuscript - the one with the red pen marks - to point out his numerous mistakes.
Michael has now visited over 2,000 elementary schools across the United States. He does not charge for his visits. He has received hundreds of letters from students and teachers. Michael believes what he is doing is important and provides a benefit to the students he comes in contact with.
His interesting and informative talks reinforce the importance of being able to read and how to use that ability to receive the highest level of education. Michael stimulates children's minds by reminding them to stick with something and how perseverance always pays off in the end!
